Specialty Blog #3 – HTML & CSS

Hypertext Markup Language, or HTML, is a standardized computer language that is used for tagging text files to achieve font, color, images on the World Wide Web. Cascading Style Sheets, or CSS, is a style sheet language that is used for the layout of HTML documents. CSS covers colors, fonts, lines, images and many other aspects of websites.  The difference between the two is what they are used for.  HTML is used to structure content while CSS is used for formatting the structured content. HTML and CSS are important because it allows people to design websites on the Internet. They are important in WordPress because it allows the user to add the stylesheet directly to the page or post without changing the theme. According to Joshua Quittner, author of”Network Designer: Tim Berners-Lee. From Thousands of Interconnected Threads of the Internet, He Wove the World Wide Web and Created a Mass Medium for the 21st Century,” web designers use HTML because the language can be easy to learn and it helps define the structure of a webpage. It allows them to access information on a document instead of a collection of static pages that can only be read when downloaded. An example for HTML + CSS is below:
